  • eBay's "Down Season" Wraps Up
  •

Christmas is quickly approaching, and as you may have noticed, eBay's "down season" is coming to an end.

If you're already a registered seller on eBay, now is the time to start ramping up your listings and increase your sales. As each week passes and Christmas slowly creeps closer, you'll notice that you begin to sell more often and your auctions will begin fetching a higher price.

This trend should continue through the first weeks of December when prices and buying hit a peak. After Christmas, eBay generally experiences a New Year's slump which picks back up again in the Spring.

But, nothing beats the Christmas rush! Make sure you're ready!

If you haven't yet registered as a seller on eBay, you can do so quickly and easily. Registering to sell is a fairly painless process.

If you're already a seller, you can increase your eBay sales substantially by opening an eBay Store. eBay charges just $9.95/month for an eBay Store. Once opened, you can list Store items for just $0.05 (yes, that's five cents) for a whopping 30 days! And that $0.05 listing fee is the same whether you're selling just one item or 100 (similar to a Dutch Auction listing).

By adding a link to your eBay Store in your regular auctions, you can begin driving traffic to your Store and making extra sales almost immediately.

If you're not yet one of the more than 60 million members already registered with eBay, registration is quick and easy. Simply visit the eBay site to get started.

Don't let eBay's hottest season pass you by without taking advantage of it. Click here to open an eBay Store.

  • Turn on Your Customers' "Buy Now" Switch
       (part 8)
  •

    - by: Stuart Lisonbee

Why should I buy your product, not the competition's?

That's the question you need to answer for your potential customer if you expect to be able to make the sale. If you can't answer that question satisfactorily, then you will lose the sale.

The thing that will get someone to purchase from you rather than your competition is the thing that sets you apart from them. The one thing you have that nobody else does! This is the one reason why everybody should buy from you, and only you.

Get the idea of what I'm talking about? It's what is unique about you. Your unique selling point. Some examples might help you think of what your unique selling point is:

Back in my college days, I started up a retail computer store. I knew I would have to come up with a good reason to get people to leave my competitors and buy from me. One competitor had lifetime guarantees on all computers he sold. Another had the lowest prices (the worst unique selling point you could choose in my opinion). Yet another sold computers out of a store "cleverly disguised as a fast food restaurant."

After days of pondering what my unique selling point could be, I had it! The one reason that would convince people to leave my competitors and come to me:

I would offer home delivery! Not just of new systems, but of training, technical support, and repairs. I planned to deliver and set up newly purchased computer systems, have the deliveryman spend time to teach computer basics; and, if they ever needed their computer worked on in the future, dispatch a technician to work on site.

Well, I wasn't able to produce the money required to take it that far (investors were hard to come by for a company run by a poor college student), but do you now understand what I'm trying to convey?

Your company must have something that nobody else has. The one big reason that tells consumers why they should leave your competitors and go to you.

Next month: More on your unique selling point.
