Using eBay to Drive Traffic to Your Web Store

There was a time many years ago that eBay could be used as a great source to drive traffic to your website. This became more difficult when eBay introduced policies that disallowed linking off eBay in your eBay listings. These policies were introduced to prevent anybody from leaving the eBay site to purchase an item elsewhere. Doing so meant eBay was unable to collect on the final-value fees for the sale of an item.

Despite eBay's policies, there are still several ways to use eBay to drive traffic to your website. But why would you want to do that?

To begin with, consumers go to eBay to find a bargain. They are looking to pay less. In other words, the average consumer is willing to pay more for an item from your web store than they would for the same item on eBay. Selling an item from your website will net you higher profit more often than not.

Secondly, any item you list on eBay is surrounded by your competition. When a person does a search for your item on eBay, your listing will be buried by the items of hundreds, even thousands of other sellers. What reason does a person have to buy from you rather than the hundreds of other sellers? Regardless of the reason, it's far easier to sell an item to a person that doesn't have dozens of other sellers clamoring for their attention.

Third is the potential for repeat business. A key part of being a retailer is developing long-term relationships with your customers. It's very difficult to develop loyalty among eBay buyers, whereas it's much easier to create repeat business with your web store.
