Tell us about yourself and your online business.

I am a military veteran and a state trooper. My life experiences have helped me form my business and the products I sell. I didn’t have a large budget, so drop shipping for fulfillment appealed to me. I wanted a business where I could continue working as a state trooper, but also make sales.

Tell us something interesting or unique about yourself.

I do crash reconstruction as a state trooper where I discover all of the variables in a traffic collision and piece together how the crash must have occurred.

How did you get started with Doba?

I found Doba through a simple search on a search engine and I really liked the concept.

How does Doba help grow your online retail business?

What I like to sell I can always find in the Doba catalog. The products are always there. I have a Commerce Rocket-powered website that makes it easy to manage and keep track of my virtual inventory. The ease of use that Doba affords is the greatest asset to me. The technology is very intuitive. The integration with Commerce Rocket is also very useful.

Do you currently sell products someplace else (aside from your website)?

I only sell on my Commerce Rocket-powered website – www.TrooperTactical.com.

On average, what is your profit margin in selling products that are drop shipped from suppliers in the Doba catalog?

Twenty-one percent is my overall average. Some items maintain a 3 to 10 percent profit margin, but some items provide margins as high as 50 percent and occasionally more.

Do you have a particular product niche? If so, what is it and why?

Law enforcement equipment and military style equipment are products that relate to my expertise. I have created a niche based on personal experience. And being in Texas, I try to leverage against gun-related sales. It’s a big business.

What have you done to make your business stand out? What contributes to the growth of your business?

I can have face-to-face interactions and talk about the products that I sell because I’m still a state trooper. I also try to follow up on my sales to make sure that everything arrived well and the customers are happy with the products. I am always available for my customers. I always check on their product questions and I don’t wait to get back to them — I get the answer right then and there with my iPad or my smartphone. I want to make them comfortable buying from me.

What keeps you up at night about your business?

Advertising for my company. I want to do more than just word-of-mouth, but it’s so expensive. I have looked into it, but I haven’t been able to afford it yet.

What percentage of your product SKU’s are drop shipped?

One hundred percent are drop shipped.
