How to Open a Shopify Store

Shopify powers millions of online stores, and it is one of the easier platforms to launch on. And the account setup takes only minutes. The real work was deciding what to sell, which is where Doba comes in.

This guide covers how to open a Shopify store two ways. The first is directly through Shopify, manually. The second is through Doba Pilot, Doba's AI assistant built for dropshipping

What is Doba Pilot?

Doba Pilot is an AI assistant for dropshipping. It guides you through tasks in Doba. You can connect your store, source products, and list items easily. You don’t have to search the site or its docs. Just explain what you need in chat or use the prompt, and it will give you the steps you need.

What Do You Need to Open a Shopify Store?

To be honest, it’s not as complicated as you might think. All you need is

  • An email address

  • An idea of what you want to sell

  • And a payment method

Beyond that, Shopify supplies the rest. Its themes include many styles. No design or coding experience needed. If you want more control, deeper customization is available.

Path 1: How to Open a Shopify Store the Manual Way

How to Open a Shopify Store

Shopify's signup flow is designed for people with no technical background. It’s easy! The sequence below demonstrates how to set up a Shopify store from scratch. It'll take you from account creation through your first product. If you prefer to follow how to start a Shopify store step by step, these are the stages in order.

  1. Start your free trial. Go to shopify.com and click Start free trial. New stores get three days free. After that, it costs one dollar per month for the first three months on a standard plan. This lets you build and test before committing to full price.

  2. Create your account. Enter your email, or sign in with a Google, Apple, or Facebook account. Shopify builds your store in the background while you answer a short set of questions.

  3. Answer or skip the setup questions. Shopify asks what you plan to sell and where your business is located. Your answers help customize your dashboard. But you can skip this step and change the settings later.

  4. Pick a plan. From your dashboard, choose a plan to activate the introductory offer. The Basic plan suits most new sellers, and you can upgrade as your order volume grows.

  5. Choose and customize a theme. Under Online Store, then Themes, a free option like Dawn is a reliable starting point. Click Customize to set your colors, logo, and homepage layout, none of which requires any code.

  6. Add your products. Write a clear title and description, upload photos, set a price, and track inventory. If you want to dropship, an app can automatically import products. This saves you from creating each listing by hand. As your catalog expands, group similar items into collections. This way, shoppers can easily browse by type, price, or season.

  7. Set up payments and shipping. Connect a payment provider for customer checkouts. Then, set shipping rates that match your order fulfillment method.

  8. Create your key pages. Add an About page, a Contact page, and basic policies. These should cover shipping, returns, and privacy. They help build trust before customers decide to buy. Beginners often miss a key detail: new pages won’t show up in your store menu automatically. So, you need to add them. Go to Online Store, then Navigation, to make them visible for visitors.

This explains the full manual path. If you get stuck, check Shopify's official setup guide for more details. You won’t need any code, but it may take time and patience. Most of your effort will focus on writing product pages and making design choices, not on technical setup.

Is Shopify Easy to Set Up for Beginners?

For a basic store, yes. Setting up a Shopify store for beginners takes just minutes. Next, you'll focus on writing product descriptions. You'll also select the look and feel of your store.

Path 2: How to Open a Shopify Store with Doba Pilot

How to Open a Shopify Store

If you don’t want to set up each Shopify setting yourself, Doba Pilot can do it for you. This is the quickest way to learn how to set up a Shopify store. You’ll get instructions one step at a time through the Doba Pilot chat. To get started head to ai.doba.com and select the Shopify Agent. From there, either type a prompt such as “Create a new Shopify store for me to start my dropshipping business”. Or, click “New to store setup” and choose “Walk me through opening a store from zero.” Doba Pilot then maps out a four-step roadmap from build to launch.

Step 1: Choose Your Store Style

Pick your store's category, theme color, and banner. The options come from popular store styles. The banner images will change based on your selected category. Choosing Outdoor displays a different set of banners than selecting Home Goods. This step takes less than a minute.

Step 2: Create your Shopify store

Click Start your free Shopify trial to begin. A few things worth knowing before you do:

  • Entering your email starts a three-day free trial immediately

  • Doba Pilot walks you through each step in sequence. You must complete one step before starting the next. This keeps everything organized.

  • When Shopify asks about setup help, select “I will do this later” since Doba Pilot is handling the guidance

  • When prompted to select a plan, choose Basic. After activation, new stores pay one dollar each month for the first three months.

  • You will need to enter credit card information to activate the plan

After creating your account, go back to the Doba Pilot screen. Click Next to proceed to the authorization step.

Step 3: Authorize Shopify to Doba

Click Install Now to connect the Doba app to your Shopify store. Because you are already logged in to Shopify, a new browser window will open with the Doba app. Click the Install button to complete the authorization. Then, return to Doba Pilot and click Next.

Step 4: Enter Your Store URL

The last step is entering your Shopify store URL to complete the integration. If you are not sure where to find it, click “How to find your store URL” inside Doba Pilot. Then, a screenshot will appear showing you exactly where to look. In your Shopify account, click Online Store on the left. Then, View Store on the right and copy the URL from your browser.

Step 5: Launch and Add Products

From this point, Doba Pilot handles the remaining setup that the Shopify wizard would otherwise have prompted. Click your store link to confirm it is live, then return to Doba Pilot to start adding products.

Steps to add products with Doba Pilot:

  1. In the chat, enter what you are looking for, for example: "I would like to add outdoor products to my store." Doba Pilot will then return a curated product selection based on your category

  2. Select "List Selected Products Now"

  3. Review the listing rules and permissions, then click "Continue task"

  4. Doba Pilot lists the products to your store, typically within ten minutes

  5. Once it finishes, the products are live and ready for customers
