Doba's Insider Knowledge for Seasonal Selling 2026

Most sellers plan their Fall and Holiday catalog the same way every year: copy what worked last season, chase whatever's trending on social, restock the supplier's bestseller list. It's a reasonable starting point. It's also a guess.

Doba just did something different: we pulled our own platform's Fall and Holiday 2025 order and GMV data, broke it down by category and by product, and turned it into a season-by-season sourcing report for 2026, called Seasonal Product Niches: What 2025's Data Reveals About What to Stock in 2026.

Why Fall and Holiday Don't Sell the Same Way

The core finding won't surprise anyone who's sold through a full Q4: Fall and the Holidays are not the same season wearing different decorations. One category holds the top spot in both, but underneath it, the mix shifts hard as project- and self-care-driven buying in September and October gives way to gift-driven buying by December.

Here's what that shift actually looks like once you break it down.

5 Ways Our Data Might Change Your Strategy

1. Last season's runner-up doesn't automatically carry over. Beauty & Personal Care was Fall's second-largest category by order share at 10.4%, then dropped to 6.3% by the Holidays, the single steepest loss of any category in the data. If you're planning to lean on a strong Fall performer through gift season without checking whether the pattern holds, this is the category that says check first.

2. Order volume and revenue don't always point to the same categories. In Fall, Industrial ranked 4th and Automotive ranked 6th by order count, but they produced the 2nd- and 3rd-largest shares of category revenue that season. Fewer orders, bigger checks per order. A catalog built purely around order-count leaders can miss where the real margin is sitting.

3. Even a #1 bestseller isn't immune to the season. One SKU topped the order-volume charts in both the Fall and Holiday seasons, a genuinely rare feat. Its own revenue contribution still fell more steeply than the overall season-over-season decline. Being the top seller doesn't make a listing seasonless; it still needs a plan for its slower half of the year.

4. Categories that "explode" During the Holidays usually had a small foothold in Fall. Toys, Kids & Baby held a small share of Fall orders, well outside the season's top ranks, then nearly doubled its share by the Holidays, one of the largest gains of any category. Waiting until November to build out gift categories from scratch means starting from zero instead of building on a base you already had.

5. Supplier concentration flips hard between seasons. Seven of Fall's ten bestselling products came from a single supplier. By the Holidays, that dropped to just two, with a much wider mix of suppliers breaking into the top ten. A store leaning on one or two suppliers heading into Fall may need a broader bench by the time December hits.

What Else Is Inside

Beyond the five takeaways above, the full whitepaper includes:

  • Two separate sourcing shortlists, one built for Fall 2026 and one for the 2026 Holidays, organized by opportunity instead of hunches

  • A practical planning checklist for getting both catalogs live before each season's demand actually ramps up

None of it is speculation or trend-chasing. It's built from what Doba sellers actually ordered last year.

Who This Is For

If you're planning a 2026 catalog and want a head start before the Fall rush hits, this is built for you. It's especially useful if you've ever stocked up on a "safe" category in October only to watch it stall out by Black Friday, or scrambled in November to add gift-appropriate products you should have been building out since Labor Day.
